"Klaus Schmoll" (klausschmoll)

So what do we have here? An online ad for a W124 for sale. Somebody found it interesting enough to tweet about it. O.K. The car is wrapped in vinyl, was obviously used to promote the AFD (Alternative For Germany), a party that wants to get out of the Euro, or something. They currently spend their time fighting among each other if they are anti-islam as well, or who gets to say what.
Some people (like me) call them pseudo-nazis in pin-stripes, and this car isn't helping them at all.
When you see it!

*spends long time staring at photo*
*realizes my knowledge of German is slipping*
*realizes I never knew German in the first place*

'Alternative for Germany' sounds like the name of a skinhead emo band.

Big Germany '33-'45? That's nasty.
Is this group similar to the Pegida movement? Am I right in calling Pegida barely closeted racists? It seems to me, and I might be wrong, that those groups mostly consist of people who struggle to keep up with society and need something to channel their fear towards. The people, especially in former Eastern Germany, who never really recovered from the fall of the wall.

First! You saw it!
And yes, some of them flirted with the Pegida people. One of their spokespeople even tried to coach them through the Bachmann-Hitler scandal.
It all lead to great debates, but all in all, while they try to keep up a clean front, at least the second row are closeted nazis, and let's not start with the third row....
A lot of these Pegida marchers stated that they "come from the middle of society as they are AFD members". Not the sharpest tools in the shed, but it shows a trend.

That's nasty alright! Pegida and similar groups go against everything I believe. I honestly don't get what people's issue is with Islam.

It was easy to spot, the tweet explained it.
The Bachmann scandal was even featured in mainstream Dutch media.

Well, I get the issue with fundamentalist religion. What I don't get is why people can't comprehend that a follower of a religion isn't automatically a follower of a fundamentalist branch. You don't judge your friendly Christian neighbour when some fundamentalist Christian bombs an abortion clinic. Also, when some kid from Christian parents mugs someone on the street it's not because of religion, it's because he's a punk kid. Possibly a poorly raised one. Yet, when a kid from Muslim parents does the same thing it's because he's Muslim?

Somehow, Kinja only let me read the second part of your response now. And you are right again. As always, it's not exactly the "winners" who have a need to fill their spare time with something. Hate is a good thing to do that, it gives your day a "structure", so to speak.
These Pegida ... I don't even know what to call them ... are riled up about the idea that Muslims might cancel x-mas in Germany once they take over or something. I don't know where they got it from, but it shows how far removed from any factual discussion they are. Give them any facts, and they will respond with "Lügenpresse" (lying press, a phrase coined by the NSDAP). You can't talk to them, yet ignoring them and letting them stir isn't such a good idea either.

It wasn't Kinja, it was a ninja edit :)
Anyway, what I do find interesting is the way the press behaves in Germany. In the Netherlands it's mostly factual. x pegida anti-islam demonstrators in Dresden, 0.5x anti-pegida demonstrators in Dresden, y pegida demonstrators in Köln, 100y anti-pegida demonstrators in Köln.
Yet, in Germany you can hear the disdain against Pegida in voices at the very least, sometimes Pegida is openly mocked on a normal-ish news broadcast. They really do seem like social outcasts. Having said that, I've only been in the west, I have no idea how eastern orientated news outlets handle pegida.
From the tone of the media I do get some of the frustration of pegida members. They're frustrated because they can't understand the world around them, luckily for them they've found a scapegoat in people who are different. They want to solve this 'problem' the only way how (scream/violence/cry), yet the 'elite' doesn't get what they're saying. Sadly the media is controlled by the same 'elite', with their fancy booklearnin. That must be extra frustrating.

I find it interesting about both of your takes on German culture. Where I live, the perception is that Germany is one of the most stringent, de-facto, anti-Islam countries by virtue of its low tolerance for disorder. It is also perceived as the most economically strong country in Europe. It is also perceived as one that has a strong neo-Nazi movement. We call it Skinhead here. An interesting perception from an international perspective.

At least they chose a car that will last a thousand years. Some turn of the century models were only good for about 12...

Just treat em like the Dutch, get enough complaints and prosecute. The EU and Germany love a little censorship. If only these dopey Ossi types would learn that everything will be fine, just need a few more decades of uncontrolled non-assimilating mass immigration.

Usually the idiots can make their idiocy apparent by being allowed to speak. Nobody who matters in North America gives credit to neonazi types, as they are allowed to babble on and prove their stupidity to everyone. Censor them and make them exotic - it's happened before.
